How to apply

Staff development

The Association Montessori International (A.M.I.) was founded in 1929 by Maria Montessori to serve two purposes: to protect the integrity of her life’s work, and to raise general awareness of the importance of education. Being an A.M.I Montessori teacher certifies that you know and maintain the standards of quality and integrity in the Montessori philosophy.

As an accredited Montessori school, we require teachers with Montessori training. Our support staff consists of AMI trained Teachers, ECE’s (Early Childhood Educators), and trained teacher assistants.

Kaban and its teachers are also active members of the Canadian Association of Montessori Teachers (CAMT) a national organization devoted to excellence in teaching. CAMT strives to promote the interests of Montessori teachers, advance the standards of the teaching profession, and improve the quality of Montessori education in Canada. Through this organization’s efforts, Kaban Montessori is able to offer its staff many professional development opportunities.

At Kaban we recognize that no matter one’s age, we are never done learning. That is why we support our staff in their continuous professional development. We offer our staff opportunities to attend conferences or visit other Montessori and non-Montessori environments for observation. We also have two Preparation Weeks (end of June and end of August), in which all staff can review and complete all necessary documentation required by CCEYA (Ontario Child Care Licensing Standards). During our second Prep week, our staff also set goals for themselves in relation to their direct reports, together we plan for how to support them in achieving those goals. We have a yearly budget dedicated to Professional Development as well as days set aside for regular meetings to maintain communication amongst the staff. Each staff member also dedicates a portion of their time observing another Kaban teacher’s classroom so that we may not only learn from outside sources but also from each other.
